What We Do
The Argyll Velodrome Association is a non-profit organization that aids in building a strong and active community for all ages by providing a home base for over 17 groups and clubs. Utilizing the Argyll Velodrome, the BMX Racing Track, the North and East Soccer Fields, and the surrounding Mill Creek Ravine, AVA is host to a variety of sports including Cycling, Soccer, Rugby, and many others.
The Argyll Velodorme Association boasts a very diverse crowd of users. Ages from 3-80, ability levels from Olympic Champions to beginners, AVA is host to a club or program for everyone.
The Argyll Velodrome Association also hosts and maintains the Argyll Velodrome. The Argyll Velodrome is a 333.33 meter, 7 meter wide, and 33 degree banked concrete surfaced track situated in the beautiful Edmonton river valley Argyll Park. The facility is equal to any equivalent cycling facility in the world and is set up for first time riders to come out and experience what track riding is like. It is open for public use from May 1st to August 31st, with school booking going until mid to late October.
The velodrome is one of about twenty-five velodrome tracks in North America. In Canada there are eight tracks; Dieppe New Brunswick, University of Laval, Quebec City, Bromont Quebec, Calgary Alberta, Edmonton, Alberta, Burnaby British Columbia, Victoria British Columbia, Milton Ontario and London Ontario.
Our History
The Argyll Velodrome was constructed in 1977 by the City of Edmonton as a primary site for competitive cycling during the 1978 Commonwealth Games.
In 1993 AVA approached the City of Edmonton with the idea that they would take over the responsibility of managing the velodrome and surrounding property.
In 1995 the City of Edmonton approved the proposal for AVA to take over managing the property. The Juventus Cycling Club and the Juventus Soccer Club both joined AVA in this year to assist with volunteers and monetary help towards operating the facility.
AVA got the track resurfaced in July 1995, and the velodrome reopened in August of 1995.
Since resurfacing the track, AVA has been managing the property ever since, and is currently working towards the completion of an indoor velodrome in Edmonton.
Built in 1978, the Argyll Velodrome is a 333.33 meter concrete surfaced track. Originally built for the commonwealth games, the Velodrome is now host to many groups and programs. Home to the School Group Program, Track League, Juventus Cycling Club, Academy of the Argyll Velodrome Racing Association, Velocity Cycling Club, Edmonton Road and Track Club, Edmonton Masters Cycling Club, and Pedalhead Cycling Club.
